Wielkopolska

wielkopolska_KornikWielkopolska - the cradle of the Polish state

Wielkopolska is a historical region of Poland, lying in a strip from the centre to the western border of the country, where European transport routes cross: East - West, North - South. Wielkopolska - the land of a landscape rich in lakes, forests and rivers - is the cradle of the Polish state. It was here that the first Polish rulers from the Piast dynasty resided, and it was here that the baptism of Poland took place.

The region has a number of important urban centres, including Poznań - the capital of Wielkopolska. The city situated halfway between the Polish capital city - Warsaw, and Berlin is the economic, scientific and cultural centre of the region. Poznań for years now had been a conference centre, the potential of which is valued at home and abroad. In recent years, the Poznań Conference organised special events on the scale hitherto unknown in the city and the country. Each year the city attracts the Polish and foreign tourists with numerous cultural and tourist attractions.

Around Poznań there is a giant green park which is dotted with lakes and cut with threads of rivers. It is inhabited by practical, but also friendly and cheerful people. Liked by tourists, including those from ... the space!

The tourist can learn about fascinating history of the beginning of the Polish State and the rich history of the region by visiting the many archaeological and ethnographic museums, archaeological heritage parks and reserves.

wielkopolska_RogalinThe Wielkopolske Voivodeship is a place of unique traditions and folklore that have been recorded in historic architecture and distinctive culture of Wielkopolska towns and villages. The wealth of the region are the numerous mansions and palaces, acting in the ideal place for congresses, conferences and meetings.

The Voivodeship is full of intriguing stories and secrets. In the Wielkopolska Reserve in Morasko the Europe's largest meteorite was found, weighing 164 kg, in Konin there is the stone considered to be the oldest road sign in Poland and in Poznań there is cathedral where the first Polish rulers are buried.

Wielkopolska is the cradle of Polish statehood. The remains of the Piast capital on the island of Ostrow Lednicki, the Mother of All Polish Cathedral in Gniezno, where the baptism of Poland was held, palladium in Poznań - all these places are located on the historic Piast Trail, which is deftly interwoven with the history of tourism.

The Piast Trail passes through two lake districts with more than a thousand lakes. It also touches  some of the old aristocratic mansions, spread in beautiful parks that have been converted into luxury hotels and museums.

In the palace of Raczynskich in Rogalin there is a collection of outstanding Polish artists, including Wyczółkowski, Malczewski and Matejko, as well as foreign artists such as: Paul Delaroche and Claude Monet. The Hunting Lodge in Antonin was built of wood around the few-floor high stove, and near the residence in Brody there one were... pears on the willow.
